Hi, everyone! I'm on a roll and back again with a card I was able to make this afternoon while my littlest one napped and my boys played outside with their great daddy. :)

I started off using one of CPS' sketches, here it is:

CPS is celebrating their 5th anniversary and today is just one out of fifteen straight days of sketches and chances to win free stamps as part of their celebration--SO fun!

So, here is my take on it:

I used My Minds Eye patterned paper and Spellbinders Fancy Tag and Foliage die. :)

I have been a "secret" fan of Our Daily Bread Designs for quite some time now but have finally been able to put their fantastic stamps to good use! I say, "secret"meaning that I just haven't been able to participate in their challenges (for lack of time) and such like I have wanted to. I really adore all their stamps because they are of the Word of God! You can almost just stamp one of their beautifully designed verses onto a plain piece of cardstock and be done. Why? Because the Word of God is beautiful just as it is and brings life and encouragement. How could I not be an ODBD fan? :) Anyway, the stamp I used on this card comes from their Scripture Series 1 and I'm entering it into their H-E-A-R-T challenge.

Here are mine, I was able to do four of the five letters:

H-heart (in the die on each end)

A-aqua

R- rhinestones

T-turquoise

I am also entering this in the SSIC challenge #126--to make s happy card!

CAS-ual Fridays:CFC39 & The Craft's Meow

Hi, there! Today I'm entering this card into the CAS-ual Fridays clean and simple + paper piercing challenge. When I saw that The Craft's Meow was sponsoring it I knew I had to enter! The Craft's Meow is a new-ish stamp company with super cute stamps and fabulous illustrators (the ever talented and much sought after Nina Brackett being one of them!).

Anyway, here is the card I made for the challenge:

I stamped the dotted Dahlia image (Layers of Color), colored it with my Copic markers then paper pierced it onto the card. Finished it off by tying some Jillibean Soup bakers twine around it.

That's pretty CAS if you ask me! ;) Sorry for the poor quality of the second photo. The colors are more true to life in the first pic.

Sent with Love card using some Crafty Secrets stamps! :)

Hi, everyone! I've been itching to create these past few days seeing all sorts of inspiration during my late night sessions with Miss Bella Wren as I surf "blogdom". :) Well, this afternoon while Bella napped I got to creating! Here is the card I made:

I used Card Patterns Sketch #151:

The background stamp is from Layers of Color's "The Love Chapter" stamp set and the sentiment from their "Sent with Love" stamp set.

Those beautiful flourishes are from Crafty Secret's clear art stamp set "Birdies. If you love vintage images you will just ADORE pretty much anything Crafty Secrets produces! Seriously! Ever since I saw their booth at a Great American Scrapbooking Convention years ago I was in love! ;) The last GASC I went to I ended up buying five of their sets and a couple of their printed ATC cards. Yes, I'm a sucker for quality stamps with vintage themes!

The cute birdhouse is a Jolee's embellishment I found at Michael's.

Well, its been a little while since I've posted BUT I have a GREAT excuse! Here she is:

She was born January 29th at 9:20am. 7.7lbs 19.6" She is a doll and we are in love! :)

Now, this is a card I made for a pub call the didn't make the cut but it works with a couple of challenges so I thought I would enter it. :)

I just adore this toadstool stamp! It is a Gina K Designs stamp illustrated by Theresa Momber. It and the sentiment are from her "Little Critters" stamp set. This set is one of my faves--I just adore all the cute images in it! I kept the card fair CAS and colored the image with my Copic markers. :)

Hand Soap teacher gift

So, I've seen this done at one of my MOPS meetings when I was back in the states and I knew I wanted to make some as teacher gifts as soon as my boys were in school. What teacher doesn't like hand soap, for herself of her classroom? I know I would!

So, I decided to tackle that project just a day before I thought I was going to give them away. (My planning loving self has not done so well here. Lots going on inside and out so, I have embraced the last-minute pretty much everything!) I bought some inexpensive hand soap at our local grocery store hoping that the labels would come off with ease. Well, they did but the adhesive did not. :( I visited a couple of blogs that had tutorials on this project and one of the recommended using Goof Off to get the adhesive off. Here is that blog and post, The Idea Room. Well, I didn't have time to go searching for this product so I used Bar Keepers Friend stainless steel cleaner instead. (Can I just put in a plug for this cleaner for a minute? LOVE it! Cleans just about any kind of stain from stainless steel pans plus rust, porcelain stains and GOBS of other things--my go to cleaner for so many things.) I thought that I might be running the risk of scratching the surface of the container but it was all I had and what am I if not a resourceful, last minute problem solver? ;P

I got the adhesive off without scratching the surface BUT it did take the gloss sheen off the container. Boo. Luckily, I had some clear glaze (glossy mod podge would work, too) in my crafty stash and a thin coat of that brought the gloss right back. :)

Don't you love that Poinsettia? One of Melanie Muenchinger's fantastic stamps sets from Gina K Designs, "Holiday Basket" has that little stamp. It is just perfect and beautiful! I colored it with Copic markers of course. :) I have to mention, too, that Melanie also has a "to die for" stamp set (really a series of sets) called "Stately Flowers1" that has stamps of all the states' flowers plus some fabulous sentiments to go along with them. LOVE it and want it and the ones that follow! :)

Lovin' those tags? Well, they were a free download from Jones Design Company. I don't know how I stumbled across their blog but it is now one I subscribe to and love. SO many cute and beautiful DIY ideas there!

OK, now for the transparency deal. I have to admit, third times a charm. Ha! You need to get printable transparencies and use a LASER printer. Inkjets will not work as the ink will just slide off the transparency once inserted into the bottle (took mine over night to slide off). That one blog suggested you can print the transparencies at your local copy store if you don't have a laser printer. Of course, I do not have a laser printer and I was DETERMINED to make this project work for me. And, remember, I am resourceful. :) I figured that if I print them using my inkjet let it set for a few minutes then coat it with my glaze that the glaze would act as a nice coating over the ink and it wouldn't slide off! Yes!

SO, yes, I used what I had with me (Aleene's Paper Glaze). The first one worked perfectly! Using a foam brush I brushed over a very fine coat of the glaze, let it dry completely and then inserted it into the bottle. 48 hours later, no drippy ink. Now, the second and third bottles I applied a thicker coat. BAD idea. The thicker coat, even though it was transparent-ish, was visible and looked tacky. And, an even worse idea was to insert the "almost" dry transparency into the bottle. It wasn't transparent. It was opaque. And it looked really tacky!

So, that is when the third time came into play. I redid those last two, applying a thin coat of the Paper Glaze, let them dry completely and then inserted them in.

SO, I'm hoping the glaze will hold. I think it will. :)

Great sketch, huh? I love "sweet and simple" sketches. They just make card making super easy to do!

I used Layers of Color's "Angelic" and "Glad Tidings" clear art stamp sets and DCWV paper. I adore clean and simple cards and this sketch was just perfect for that! :)

Hey, there! Today I have a card using Card Patterns sketch 145. Here is the sketch:

Well, I should first say that I am dying to get the rest of my craft supplies in!!! I need my Spellbinders dies, Grand Caliber, GinaK card stock, all my embellishments, embossing gun and powders, etc! Need! ;) Oh, parting with them was such not-so-sweet sorrow but alas, I shall see them again soon. I truly hope so anyway! Our boxes (that we shipped) are supposed to have arrived already and we are just waiting on the call or email saying we can pick them up!

Anyway, moving on. I used Layers of Colors "Glad Tidings" clear art stamp set for the main image and sentiment on this card. If you've not gone over and checked out Layers of Colors fantastic Christmas stamp collection (or any of their stamps really!) you need to! This set along with so many others are just so fun and inspiring!

I used DCWV paper for my background and Seven Gypies red gaffer tape to create the "ruffles".

And an upclose shot of the cups. Since my precious Grand Calibur is sitting in a box on a ship somewhere across the Atlantic, I stenciled the dies and cut the cups out. :) The sentiment came from "Teacup Blessings" clear art stamp set--I just love that set!

Hi, everyone! Ready for another Layers of Color sneak peek??? :) Today I'm showing you a little glimpse of one of my favorite new releases called "Beautiful Lace"! You are going to love it!!!

Aren't those doilies to die for?! I just absolutely love them to pieces! Hee hee! I used a piece of DP from the DCWV Lemon Flower stack, some of that lovely Tim Holtz Tissue Tape and my most loved Copics to add a bit of color to the doilies. :)

Nina added some great sentiments to this set as well!

I used one of the main Peony images for my focal point, coloring it with Copic markers. I also used some Tim Holz Tissue Tape to outline my white background piece of cardstock.

Gina K Designs new Release: Basket Additions and Strength & Hope!

Hi, everyone!!! I'm baaaaaaaaack! ;) We've been here in Portugal for about three weeks now and we're ever so slowly getting adjusted to life here. We're not in our rental house yet but hope to be soon! I write all about our overseas journey HERE if you are ever curious! ;)

Anyway, welcome to this month's Gina K Designs New Release!!! Yea! Today I am excited to show you two of the new sets starting with Basket Additions by Melanie Muenchinger. Melanie has done it again with supplying us more wonderful images that coordinate with her "Spring Basket" and "Holiday Basket" sets! Here is "Basket Additions":

Don't you just love it? Of course, I was drawn to those crafty fillers right away! Here is a card I made using that image and the basket bottom from Spring Basket:

I wanted that craft basket to have some "life" to it so I colored it in fun, bright colors (Copics of course!) and used DCWV's Lemon Flower polka dot paper for my background.

Next up is one from Theresa Momber called "Stength & Hope". This is a very neat set because Theresa will be donating all of her profits to Breast Cancer Research for the first month of sales. Isn't that wonderful? Here it is:

And here is a CAS card I made using the butterfly image and the "strength and hope" sentiment:

It is hard to see in this photo but there are little pink dots in the background. You know, sometimes I think that less is really more, huh?

Layers of Color Christmas Collection Blog Hop!

Welcome everyone to our Layers of Color New Release Party and Blog Hop!!!

Today we're revealing our new Christmas Collection designed by Laura Kirste Campbell and Nina Brackett!

These special designs were created from the artist's hearts in celebration of Christ's birth. In our new Christmas Collection we are offering Spellbinders die coordinating stamps, images for Christmas cards, quick 'n easy gift tags, and timeless card verses. There are lovely classic designs that are wonderful beyond the Christmas season too!

Here are a couple of cards I made showcasing some of these beautiful stamps:

This card uses the new "Vintage Postcard" cling art stamp as the main focal point, and the new "Sentimental Banners" clear art stamp set for the Merry Christmas greeting. I simply stamped the postcard image on white card stock then inked around the edges in "Memento Desert Sand" to give it that aged look.

Now onto a card showcasing the new "Holly Angel" cling art stamp. I will be drawing a name from all my commenters from today's hop and will be giving this stamp away for FREE! So make sure you post a comment for your chance to win!

Isn't she just lovely? The verse came from the new "Christmas Verses" clear art stamp set that I think you are going to really love! Also, the decorative bar came from the new "Christmas Blessings" clear art stamp set. That lovely cross is from an LOC classic, "Gothic Crosses" clear art stamp set. :)

I colored her in Christmas red and green in this card but my favorite is when she is in the all classic white with shinning lights like here below:

Hi, everyone! Today I have another Layers of Color new release sneak peek to show you!!!

This one is also one of my favorites!!! Is it not just so beautiful? That lovely, vintage-y/elegant feel just draws me!!!

This image comes from the soon to be released "Christmas Blessings" clear art stamp set. I colored in the roses and leaves, along with highlighting the "C" and scrolly part. :)

I also used the beautiful dove from the soon to be released "Glad Tidings." It just fit so perfectly I couldn't resist!

Gina K New Release: My True Love Gave to Me & Cool Beans!

I've made a tag! This little beauty was made by layering Spellbinders fancy tags in red and green and then stamp that beautiful JOY in the middle! The "joy" is from the new "Christmas Verses" clear art stamp set and the cherubs are from the new "Angelic" clear art stamp set.

Layers of Color - Faith Art Friday -Promises of God Journal

I have the wonderful privilege of hosting the Layers of Color Faith Art Friday again today! This time around I wanted to share the first page of my "Promises of God" journal! The vision behind my journal is to create art around the promises of God that are meaningful to me. I thought this verse would be a fitting one for page one. :)

I had an amazingly wonderful time creating this page! So much so that I might just frame it and put it up in my kitchen somewhere! Lol! We'll just have to wait and see though!

For this lovely page I used Layers of Colors stamp sets "Fruitful Harvest" and "Honeysweet." Fruitful harvest is just ripe with beautiful fruit images--it has always been one of my favorites. Don't you love how it comes alive with some layers of color?

If the Shoe Fits and Moxie Fab

In this close up, you can see my favorite LOC stencil, Natural Flourish (unfortunately, they are currently sold out of this one), and faintly in the background, stamped in Memento New Sprout is the lovely flower image from the newly released Artful Endearments.

In this shot, we have one of my favorite images from Granny's Jewelry and one of the leaf images from Flowering Gems.

I absolutely LOVE creating with my LOC stamps--the possibilities for gorgeousness are endless!!! :)

Basket Buddies and Heartfelt stamp sets

Welcome back, everyone! Today we get to showcase two wonderful new sets. First off, we have Basket Buddies illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger:

Isn't it cute? If you're a pet lover or know someone who is, this set is just perfect.

Here is a card I made using the cats image:

Everyone together now, "Awwwwww..." :) Aren't they cute?

I colored these kitties using Copic markers.

Next up is Heartfelt by Theresa Momber:

This is just such a great fall set. From the fabulous pumpkins to the fall leaves and beautiful flowers---just an overall wonderful fall set!

Here is the card I made using a few of its images:

Don't you just love that picket fence? I went the "easy" route and chose to leave it white. Lol! I just stamped it in Memento Rich Cocoa twice then cut it out--no coloring needed! ;)

I stamped the flowers twice coloring both layers with Copic markers then cutting out the second layer and adhering it to the card with pop dots for that added dimension.

Falling for You StampTV kit!!!!

Welcome everyone to Gina K Design's August Release Inspiration Blog Hop (phew! that was a mouthful!)

Today we get the pleasure of showcasing this month's StampTV kit: Falling for You:

Isn't is just awesome?! I SO love it!!! Look at that cute chicken!! And the frog, and the trees, and those leaves, and flowers, and yeah, everything! Ha!

Here is a card I made using the cute chicken image:

I loved that image so much I stamped her twice! :) To get her facing the other direction I used a mirror image stamp. Now, in case you are wanting to do the same be forewarned: I have not mastered getting a super CLEAR image when using the mirror image stamp. It usually comes out fairly fuzzy but what I do is outline it with a black pen where it needs it and it works out just fine--you just can't be a perfectionist when it comes to this technique. ;)

I couldn't just make one card so I used the whimsical flower image and tree branch for my next card:

Well, I think I'm on a roll!!! It has been SO good to create with no agenda!!! Just wonderful! This my second post in two days--that, my friends, is a good thing. :)

Today I'm playing along in the CardPatterns: Sketch 125 challenge. Here is the sketch we were to base our cards off of:

And here is my take on it:

I just love these colors! I used Echo Park papers from their "For the Record" line. This paper stack has the most fun colors that work so well together! Funny enough, as trends in color and styles are usually followed by the majority of paper crafting companies, Crate Paper's "Portrait" line matches perfectly in color with EP's line---sooooooo, that is where those beautiful fabric brads came from. Aren't they just gorgeous?

One of my favorite things to do is peruse through all my Layers of Color stamps and just see what inspires me at the time (just looking at LOC images gives me so much inspiration!). This time around, I was drawn by this beautiful butterfly image from Layers of Color's popular "Butterfly Collector." I stamped it in Memento Rich Cocoa ink then colored it with Copic markers. I love how well you can blend with these markers!

The "thank you" sentiment came from LOC's "Sent with Love" stamp set. I taped off the "kindly" part on the bottom of the stamp as I didn't have room for it.

Well, I must say I got a little carried away with all my stamp usage! It has just been such a long time since I've sat down and created something purely out of the desire to create (and not a deadline or specific stamps!). I find that I do my best when I have no restrictions. Can any of you relate? Well, you know I am a HUGE Layers of Color fan. I just love just about every single on of their stamp sets and also love to mix and match them--they just work so well together!

In this section of my card you can see that gorgeous new release "Chicken wire teacup", a butterfly from "Butterfly Collector", and some eggs from the adorable "Rise and Shine."

In this section, you can see the "blessings" sentiment straight from the new release "Artful Endearments", my favorite flourish of all time from "Nature Walk", and a cross from "Gothic Crosses."

Layers of Color New Release "Sneak Peek" #3!

Just one more day until the Layers of Color new release!!!! Woo hoo! Today I thought I'd "sneak" in one more sneak peek!

I have been struggling with my creative "mojo" ever since being hit by horrible first trimester nausea so I thought I would try something different to kick it back into gear. I decided to make a piece of wall decor! ;) Here is what I came up with:

I started off with these four pieces of wood that I've had in my craft stash for quite some time! I thought I would stamp the Pansy Corner stamp on each one and turn it into a fun floral bouquet in which the ever lovely Silk Moth could alight upon. :) I started off coloring the pansies with Faber Castell Gelatoes and then went back over the middles with a red Prisma Color pencil to add a bit of red richness to the centers. I didn't have the right color green for the leaves in my Gelatoes collection so I used my Copic markers to achieve the color I wanted.

Of course, miss Silk Moth had to delight us with some color so I took my Copics and colored her nice warm pink blend with some cranberry highlights. :)

The dragonflies from the Flutterescent clear art stamp set couldn't resist such a scrumptious bouquet of flowers either so they are making their way there! ;)

Jungle Fever

Today we had the privileged of celebrating the cutest three year old I know! My sweet Judah turns three on Monday and today we threw him a super fun pool party! Look at this picture of him. He is one of the silliest yet sweetest, most "huggable-est" kids I know!

So, we threw him a party and of course, as I am known around these parts as the cake lady, the pressure was on to see what I would do. Well, unfortunately this 9 weeks pregnant cake lady has not been feeling all that hot lately, so I needed to go with EASY. Too me, pool party was EASY. Just have some food, let the people come and swim! No need for games, activities, etc. Just come, swim, chat, enjoy. Easy. Well, when I think of easy of cakes, I usually just go looking around at magazines or online for ideas on what to make as I can make things really complicated when I get going on my own. Just ask my husband. ;)

So, I have this fun book that shows you have to make cupcakes super fun and easy, with little to no HARD about it. Here is the book, I'm sure some of you have seen it at Michael's or Walmart or anywhere really, as I've seen it at a bunch of stores:

I was flipping through the pages and decided to go with this one as Judah loves flamingoes (always HAS to see them when we go to the zoo) and alligators (the hippos just came along for the ride):

So, very doable and cute. :) And, yes, those nutterbutter creatures are supposed to be Hippos. I at first thought, camels but it just didn't fit the theme "Jungle Fever"! Ha! The Fruit Loop nostrils help a bit with the hippo factor but, eh, aren't hippos grayish-pinkish? Or purple-ish? Well, they were yummy anyway!

Here is my finished product which I set up super quick, took a few shots then put back in the fridge (topmost layer) as my candy melt flamingos were heat sensitive. I've worked with candy melts before and they are awesome--you can do lots and lots with them BUT their one major flaw can be found in their name Candy MELTS. They melt, rather quickly in the Texas heat. SO, to the fridge the went until cake time and then we all had fun watching their wings slowly droop and a few of their heads drop off. Lol!

This next one had better lighting but the flamingo heads were cropped a bit:

I loved how some of the Fruit Loops on the alligators' eyes were different shapes so that some of them look like they were winking at you!

And a close up of the adorable flamingos, you can see one of the wings was starting to wilt in the heat after just a minute or two of being out:

You will just have to check out the book on all the how to's of these cupcakes but they were really super easy to make! Just plan to have lots of time on your hands or you will be up into the wee hours of the night. ;)

Now onto the FAVORS! My fellow paper crafting followers will appreciate this part of my post! I always get excited when it comes to making favors for parties because there are just SO many possibilities out there. Again, I was thinking was would be EASY and I thought back to this amazing display I saw at CHA done by DCWV that was party themed. They made the CUTEST party everything but specifically, the favors were adorable. Here was my inspiration:

Those party favor cones were so cute yet SO simple! Here is what I came up with using a paper line by The Paper Studio called "A Boys Universe". You can click on the photo for a more upclose shot!

I had fun using Spellbinder's Sprightly Sprockets nestabilities (love these!) to create the thank you panel and Gina K Design's "Framed Greetings" stamp set for the Thank You sentiment. Also, one of my favorite things about these cuties is the fun orange and white striped ribbon I used to hang them with. You can't see it all that well in this pic but you can see a bit of it.

Well, all in all I kept things simple but was super pleased with what was accomplished at this party! :)

Masculine Themed Blog Hop -GKD

Hi, Crafters! SO sorry for being so MIA in blogland these past few weeks! What can I say but that morning sickness (all day for me! :( ) has kept me away for pretty much everything, including crafting. So sad, I know. BUT it will only last for a while so I know I'll be back up to par in a few weeks!

I used none other that Gina K's Pure Luxury cardstock for my base and Kraft accent--gotta love that stuff! The wonderful owl came from Asela Hopkins set "Nesting." I left it blank so it could be an any occasion card. :)

Gina K Designs: Elegant Elements and By the Sea!

Hi, everyone! Today's Gina K Design sets are just awesome! I love both yet both are very different. First up is Elegant Elements:

This is this months Free when you buy three deal! Here is a super simple yet so fun card I made using one of the beautiful elements:

I used some Stampin' Up inks and some Gina K ribbon (from this months StampTV kit!!) also. SO very clean and simple!

Alright, this next one is another one of Theresa Momber's fabulous creations: By the Sea!

And I really like how my card came out, it kind of has a bit of vintage flair to it:

I simply stamped the image and colored it with Copic markers, trying to stick to muted tones apart from the red. The ribbon and the swiss dots DP are also from the StampTV kit--a must have! :) Gave it that aged look by sponging Desert Sand all around it!

I just couldn't resist using this adorable image for my card! It is just too cute! I used October Afternoon DP and some fabulous GinaK ribbon! I color the image using my Prismacolor pencils.

Adventures in Sewing Vinyl Update! :)

Well, HI, everyone! I had the pleasure of having my mom come and visit for a day and guess what we tackled? The other vinyl cover of course!

So, my original cover ended up needing some reinforcement after it was well tested by my two lovely boys. As I had thought, the middle seam was just not strong enough to support all the pressure being applied to it and it ripped. I thought some good clear duct tape would do the trick but alas, only a re-sew would do.
For the second chair, we came up with a design that does not have a seam in the middle, only on the sides, so we are fairly certain that their will be no tearing.

I wish I had taken in process photos but I didn’t so the Grand Finale pics will have to do.

Alright, I present to you, the final look to my friend Genny’s gorgeous chairs:

The new chair as you can see, has a few creases in the vinyl as it was folded and put

put away until I was able to get to it. I’m hoping they will eventually fade.

Ok, get ready!!! Here is a little peek a the new bow!!!!!

TADA!!! My mom and I went to Joann’s this morning and we found this PERFECT satiny yet held its shape well fabric. OH, don’t you just LOVE these bows?

Bloom & Bee Swanky

Ok, letting you in on one of my loves--vintage anything! Whites, creams, browns and greens---love! Recently a friend of mine to me to one of the coolest vintage stores I've ever been to--in Waco, TX even! Store name: Bloom & Bee Swanky What is it? Heaven---ah, I mean a home furnishings vintage boutique. You can find just about anything fun and vintage to decorate your home with. So, the sweet ladies let me take a few pictures and even said I could share them on my blog. So, here are a few (quite a few!) pictures of things I loved!

LOVE this arrangement. I'm loving all things with branches in it so no wonder i fell in love with this piece.

This won't be the first white thing you will see pictured here. I'm telling ya, white (and all its vintage shades) is my new favorite color. I just thought this hutch (?) was lovely.

I just thought these little hands were cute. A little odd but cute. ;)

The trays. AND the gorgeous burlap pillow that you can't really appreciate in this picture. I love burlap by the way.

That thing in the background with all the handles--LOVE!!! Can you imagine all the fun crafty things I could store in there?!

Of course, I really love how the display their vintage wears at B&BS but what I really loved from this display was the way they casually draped the burlap on the table. Again, loving burlap (in many forms).

Love their creative way of displaying all those handkerchiefs.

They most have gotten the memo on how HOT silhouettes are right now!

White and lace? YES!

It's a tree, with bling--LOVE.

A couple of things here: notice the fabulous, distressed door headboard--love! Also, white and ruffles--love!

Burlap again. This time they had added a trip to some burlap and gave it a classy look as a tablecloth.

Ok, so I might not LOVE this but its made entirely of wood, and I'm loving all things wood (branches, trees, tree stumps, etc) lately. :)

Just love the "suit case as a table" thing.

Burlap bags. Green. Yes.

White/cream, distress metal and a little bit of green--love.

"Sew" Fun Blog Hop

That fabulous "faux" stitching came straight from Tami Mayberry's "In Stitches" stamp set. I absolutely love it! I do love my sewing maching but sometimes it's nice to just be able to do some "faux" stitching and save time! This set totally makes that possible!

I recently got my hands on some of the new Spellbinders dies too, and the result is that beautiful flower + leaves+ gorgeous tag underneath!

Holiday Special Issue Blog Hop

Hi, everyone! Today I am joining Amber over at Damask Love (and lots others) showcasing cards that were rejected for the Paper Crafts "Holiday Special Issue" publication. I just love that she does this! It kinda softens the blow just a little bit by allowing others to see your work.

SO, they had a call to make a Christmas card using non-traditional Christmas product. I wasn't sure exactly what they meant by that so I made one card using a beach theme! I thought it was pretty cute! Ha! Here it is:

I started off using Gina K Designs Pure Luxury Card Stock in Kraft (swoon!--I love Gina's extremely high quality card stock!), then using Melanie Muechinger's "Gifts from the Sea" to make the tree. The banner came from Nina Brackett's "Christ is Risen" set and the sentiment from her "Fanciful Tags" set.

I did think it was cute but I also realized I was taking a risk by using a beach theme. I'm looking forward to seeing what did make the cut for the call, as I really wasn'T sure what they were looking for.

Now, we are moving to Portugal this summer so I'm thinking I can still use this card for Christmas! :)

Branching Out and Follow Your Dreams --New GKD Stamp Sets!

Hey, there! Today I get to show you two more fabulous sets from this month's Gina K Designs newest stamp set release! First off is, Branching Out by Melanie Muenchinger.

Isn't it beautiful? :)

Here is a card I made using the circle image and one of the little flower images:

I used the super fab DCWV "Lemon Flower" matstack for my DP--I am just loving DCWV lately. Really, ever since I went to CHA and saw their gorgeous display (and gorgeous paper) I've been a fan! The sentiment "Many Thanks" is from Garden Silhouettes.

Up next is, "Follow Your Dreams" by Theresa Momber. Theresa always comes up with the most beautiful "nature-inspired" sets! Here it is:

And here is the card I made using the dragonfly images and the "follow your dreams" sentiment.

I used my new EK Success border punch to create the pretty leaf border. After stamping and cutting out th dragonflies I covered the wings with some Stickles to add that fun "glitteriness" to it! Do you like my new word? ;P Recognize that texture stamp? I used the long strip from "Timeless Textures" to create my variegated water scene--fun, huh?

Adventures in sewing vinyl

Ok, so if you know me you know I love pretty much anything having to do with creating of any kind. Well, yesterday I decided to tackle making a vinyl slip cover for my friend's beautifully upholstered chair. Why? Well, because I have two little boys and even though she has slip covers on them already, they are fabric covers and there have already been some spills that went through the fabric and onto that gorgeous upholstery AND with the fabric covers on you can't appreciate the beauty underneath! ;)

SO, I started off by googleing "tips for sewing on vinyl" as I've never sewed on vinyl before. I discovered a few tips that turned out to be VERY helpful:

1. When sewing on vinyl, place some pattern paper over that top of the vinyl as you sew. (Otherwise you get horrible results--don't ask me how I know) ;)

2. Use a size 14 needle. All I know is that this is a medium range size, for thicker material I'm assuming? Worked great for me.

3. Regular thread works great. I tried using upholstery thread, thinking it would be sturdier--no bueno! I'm guessing if I were really sewing savvy I could have figured out how to sew with upholstery thread (maybe adjust the tension better--see below) but I'm not. So I gave up. And used what worked!

I also went to the VERY BEST resource I have when sewing is concerned, my MOM! My mom has been sewing all her life and has been a professional seamstress for a good portion of her life. From her I learned something also very important:

TENSION. You have to have the right tension both in the tension wheel (is that what it is called?) and on your bobbin case. I had no idea you could adjust the tension on the bobbin case! But, after I adjusted the tension to 9 on the tension wheel and turned the little screw a couple of times to the right on the bobbin case, my machine was sewing beautifully on vinyl and NOT bunching up on the bottom as it was before I adjusted the tension.

And a couple of things I just came up with on my own:

1. LOW tack painters tape if awesome for holding the vinyl together until you're ready to sew or glue.

It held my ribbon in place until I was ready to sew it in place.

2. Beacons 3-in-1 glue, rocks. This is my favorite all-time go-to glue. It works like nothing else on paper (the main kind of liquid glue that I used in my paper crafting because it dries strong in seconds--really) and gobs of other products like wood, cork, glitter, beads, trims, etc.

Alright, now as I told my husband, I am not a professional seamstress as my mom is, so the end result did NOT look professional BUT I think it will serve its purpose well and doesn't look too terrible! Ha! Alright, here it is:

I totally used Beacons 3-in-1glue to adhere the corners together. Yes, yes I did. :)

Isn't that upholstery just beautiful? I added the ribbon ties to cinch the "waist" of the chair if need. I made them long to add the option of tieing them around the front and to the back giving an extra fun look to it if wanted.

A pic of the hardest section I encountered--the place where all my ends met, the back, front and side panels--uugghh. Will have to get my mom's thoughts on how I could have made that easier to do. It is pretty rough looking--dont' look at it too long, ok? ;)

Well, there you have it. Now to do the second chair! I will consult my mom the sewing guru and hopefully land a bit more of clean look on those intersecting corners.
